Your phone is probably already loaded down with apps like Facebook, IMDb and Two Dots, but there are so many more great apps to be had out there, and many of them can be downloaded for free! I want to share of few of my favorite lesser-known apps with you that could just end up being the most important apps on your phone!
My top five must-have apps:
Feedly is my favorite tool for news and articles. Basically, it combines news from websites of your choice so that you can read about what you care about, and puts them all in one convenient place. You can even share them on Facebook, Google+ and Twitter. It is a lot different than other apps which only show you random stories and blog posts. With Feedly, you are completely in control and only see what you want. You don’t have to waste time scrolling through anything that is not important to you. It’s the only app you need to help you keep up with the news you are interested in.
Glympse is the safest way to let people know where you are. Before you leave, you can send your friends a link that will allow them to see your GPS location in real time. There is no sign up process and the people you’re sharing with don’t even have to have the app in order to see you. That being said, ONLY people you share with can see your location and it expires after a certain amount of time, making it perfectly safe. It’s perfect for those of us who are busy and always running late!
Lumosity was designed by neuroscientists to train your brain for a better memory and attention span. It’s very personalized and challenging, but not so challenging that it isn’t fun. The app is free, but you are required to subscribe to Lumosity. A one-month subscription is $11.99, and one year is $59.99. It’s honestly a small price to pay considering the amount of entertainment you’re getting, as well as improving your brain’s functions. This may be one of the few games out there you can play guilt free, knowing that you aren’t just wasting time, but actually exercising your brain.
- Virtual Private Network
As a frequent traveler, I find myself constantly working remotely. I am often accessing confidential and personal information in public WiFi networks, and simply could not live without my virtual private network app. With a VPN, I know that regardless of where I am, or which network I am using, that all of my information will remain safe and secure. As an extra bonus, my VPN also allows me to access my favorite TV shows on Netflix or HBO Go, regardless of location. Check out this review to find which VPN app will work best for you.
POP is actually an acronym that stands for “Prototyping On Paper.” Whether you’re an entrepreneur, or you just happen to have an idea for an app, get a pen or a pencil and draw a picture of how it would work on pieces of paper. Then, use the POP camera to take pictures of your drawings one at a time. You’ll have an actual working prototype right there on your iPhone screen! They also have very powerful encryption technology built into the app, so your ideas are safe and you don’t have to worry about anyone hacking in and stealing your ideas and taking the credit for your work. This app also allows you to easily sync your work with Dropbox.
So, that’s a wrap! I hope you’ve been inspired to try out a few new apps. All of the apps I mentioned can be downloaded for free or have a free trial, so you really have nothing to lose in trying them all out! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
