Google is going through a massive reconstruction. The company has now created a new holding company called Alphabet. Alphabet now owns Google as well as Google’s many other companies. Think of Alphabet as the umbrella corporation that owns a collection of companies, of which Google is one of them.
The purpose for this reconstruction was so that Google can focus on their own Internet products, while allowing the subsidiaries more independence to work on their products. All of which, again will be under The Alphabet umbrella, not Google.
Larry Page will be the Alphabet CEO, whereas Sergey Brin will serve as President, both of whom are the founders of Google. Google’s new CEO will be Sundar Pichai, and new CEO’s will be appointed to all the subsidiary companies.
This now means Alphabet Inc. will replace Google Inc. as the publicly traded entity.
